Located 11 km far from Peniche, the Berlenga island forms with the islets of Farilhões, Estelas and Forcadas, the Berlengas archipelago.
With about 1500 by 800 m, the island has a maximum height of 85 m and is formed by rose granite, while the other islets are made of schists and gneiss.
Furado Grande (Big Hole) crosses the entire island and leads to an immense bay covered by a huge vault once known as Cova do Sonho (Dream Cave), a truly nature’s masterpiece.
Declared Nature and Biogenetic Reserve by the Council of Europe, Berlengas archipelago shows an impressive wild nature. A world that doesn’t belong to mankind, but really worth to enjoy!
